Short film about how space could be represented with out walls

SPACE WITH NO WALLS
March 2014

How do you define something like space, the medium architects spend their life designing yet when discussed in isolation feels so intangible, so indefinable to the extent that only by enclosing it are we able to conceive it.

Space stripped of all its constraints becomes an instant; i.e. irrevocably connected to time. Within time space evolves and is compressed to produce continuity. Space is about transformation: the layering of different instances on top of each other.

The following short film is a collection of 7 different instances - 7 frames that visualize my thinking about space:

A fluid portrait of the subject that so fascinates me yet which no one dares adress. Artist talk about space, Scientists talk about it, yet Architects we simply limit ourselves to use it. This film rather than use space is an experiment in thinking about space.

If spaces are composed of instances; Instances require another ingredient to become perceived – light. Light is the filter that transforms space into an human habitat.

Finally this film is a short experiments in the manipulation of light. The footage, the images create fuzzy ambiguities that demystify (or maybe the opposite) our notions of what space could be.
